Victoria Of Wight NOT Expected To Return To Service Tomorrow

It is not known when the Victoria of Wight will return to service - but it will not be tomorrow (Tuesday).

As FIRST reported by Isle of Wight Radio, the ferry 'crashed' as people were going back to their cars this afternoon (Monday).

431 people were on board and 16 crew members were also on the ship.

The boat has now been pulled from service and is being inspected in Portsmouth after damage was caused to the prow of the ship.

It means there will be delays and cancellations, as a result, all afternoon and into tomorrow.

The same boat has only just returned to service after it was pulled for a month prior to the school holidays for repairs.

A spokesperson for the ferry firm told Isle of Wight Radio:

'The Wightlink ferry Victoria of Wight has been withdrawn from service after experiencing heavy berthing on arrival at Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight this afternoon.

'The 13:00 sailing from Portsmouth had 16 crew and 431 passengers on board. There are no reports of any serious injuries. Wightlink is contacting the customers who were on that crossing to offer support.

'Victoria of Wight is now berthed in Portsmouth and surveyors will be on board to assess the damage and agree any repairs needed. The ship will not be in service tomorrow (Tuesday).

'There will be some delays to sailings this afternoon and evening, but customers are advised to check-in as normal as the other vessels will run a shuttle service.'

The next update from the company will be tomorrow at lunchtime.
