MP Asks Pharmacy To Expand Its Blister Pack Recycling Scheme

MP Bob Seely has asked Boots UK Ltd to expand its blister pack recycling scheme to cover more of the Island.

Last month, the pharmacy chain announced it was now accepting empty medicine and vitamin blister packs for recycling at its Ryde and Shanklin High Street stores.

The empty blister packs are taken to MYGroup which separates the foil and plastic using a specialised machine and converts all the waste into something new.

Mr Seely said:

“Over the last year, Islanders have told me about the need for blister pack recycling facilities on the Isle of Wight.

“I am pleased a scheme is now in place at the Boots High Street stores in Ryde and Shanklin. This is providing good coverage for Islanders living in the East of the Isle of Wight.

“I would, however, like to see the scheme extended into more stores, so I have written to Boots urging them to extend the scheme to their Newport High Street store which does not yet offer blister pack recycling.

"That would enable more Islanders to use the recycling scheme.”
