More Than £58,000 Grant Given To Support Vulnerable Isle of Wight Families

More than £58,000 has been given to support vulnerable Isle of Wight families and Islanders with mental health needs.

The grant which is a total of £58,510 is the latest round of ‘Solent Supporting Employment’ grants from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation.

The money will go towards the “Working Towards Wellbeing’ project which is run by Newport-based Osel Enterprises Ltd.

The project will utilise the organisation’s valuable experience and knowledge of supporting people with mental health needs and to help lone parents and parents from disadvantaged and vulnerable families on the Isle of Wight to move closer to employment.

Osel Enterprises was formed in 1988 to provide training and employment for people with disabilities living on the Island.

It works closely with the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Local Authority, providers of services and other organisations to meet the needs of the Island.

Four inclusion enterprises of Osel consist of:

  • Wight Crystal spring water
  • The Way Forward Program
  • Living Well
  • Working Towards Well-Being

Julie Gladman, Employment Service Lead at Working Towards Wellbeing said:

“We are thrilled to have been awarded this funding that will allow us to set up our ‘Family Employment Advice Service’ for lone parents and troubled families living on the Isle of Wight, delivering a unique combination of support and personalised service provision. This advice service will take a holistic approach enabling parents to access to a socially inclusive life by undertaking voluntary work, training or progressing into paid employment, empowering them to reach their full potential leading on to more choice and control over their lives.”

Grants have been awarded to 8 groups across South Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
