A man in his 40s has been pronounced dead following a multi-agency search along Ventnor beach this afternoon (Friday).
Air Ambulance, Coastguard, Police and Ambulance teams were called to the town's Esplanade at around 1pm.
The man was last seen entering the sea.
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said:
"We were called at around 1pm with concerns for the welfare of a man who had gotten into difficulties in the water off Ventnor Esplanade.
"Despite the efforts of emergency services, a man in his 40s was pronounced dead. His next of kin have been made aware.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner."
