The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is urging people to only use its Emergency Department at St Mary's if completely unavoidable.
The plea comes with patient numbers at the Newport hospital on the rise this week.
A spokesperson for the IW NHS Trust said:
"Our Emergency Department is very busy today (Saturday).
"If you think you need A&E, please call 111 or visit http://111.nhs.uk first
"If you need advice over the weekend for something minor, a pharmacist may be able to help. Remember, 999 is for life threatening emergencies."
