An Isle of Wight learning support teacher has received a top award - after dedicating the last twenty years to preparing youngsters for their first Holy Communion.

Mrs Carol Reading, who works at St Thomas Canterbury Catholic Primary School, has been awarded the Diocesan Medal.

She says she is very "honoured" to have been given the award and says she "loves" working with the children.

Staff and children at the school are joining the parishioners of St Thomas Canterbury Catholic Church in congratulating Mrs Reading.

Headteacher, Mrs. Sanderson added:

“Carol is a very special member of our community and has made such a difference for so many of our children. It is lovely to see this effort recognised by the Diocese.”

An award ceremony took place at St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Church, Newport with Father Emmanuel.
