Adults on the Isle of Wight looking to improve their healthy lifestyle and become more active will be able to access a free 12-week swimming programme from next month.
The initiative is part of a funded package to help Islanders with weight loss and get them moving.
The programme, which is being funded by the Isle of Wight Council, is open to residents over the age of 18 with a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 30 or above (or 27.5 or above for those from a BAME ethnic background).
Participants can self-refer or be referred by their GP and will receive twelve, half hour swimming sessions with a swimming coach to help improve technique and fitness.
In addition to the swimming, participants will also be given free access to gloji, a digital platform that works around busy schedules.
Through gloji, participants can access weekly videos and other resources providing holistic support and information on behaviour change, nutrition, sleep and managing stress.
They can also use the platform to log their weight on a weekly basis.
Emma Seabrook, 43, from the Isle of Wight, is one of those who has taken part in the programme before.
“I have found it inspiring, and it has enabled me to make healthier life changes,” says Emma.
“The healthier choices I have made to my diet and lifestyle has impacted on my overall health, lowering my blood pressure and cholesterol.
"I would strongly suggest people make time each week to watch the videos, and make little changes on a weekly basis, and then become established with those changes before introducing more changes.”
The programme, which will be offered in two groups each week at 1pm and 2pm on Wednesdays, begins on May 1 and will take place at the 1Leisure Medina centre in Newport.
Interested participants are asked to sign up no later than Wednesday April 24 by visiting www.iow.gloji.org.uk, or scanning the QR code on the image within this article.
