Dover Park Hosts Healthy Eating Drive For Primary Pupils

Dover Park Primary School recently hosted an exciting ‘Ready Steady Cook’ style competition as part of their ongoing Healthy Eating Drive.

The event, which took place on Friday 16th September, saw the headteacher, Jon Kirby, and deputy headteacher, Hayley Roberts, battle it out in a friendly culinary competition in front of the whole school.

Year 6 pupils kindly volunteered to  judge the cooking and Mrs Roberts emerged victorious with her delicious omelette, while Mr Kirby was the runner-up with his savoury pancakes and cheese sauce. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed watching the event and were engaged throughout the somewhat messy proceedings.

Jon Kirby, Headteacher, said:

“We’re really passionate about educating children about healthy eating and instilling the fun of cooking. This was an exciting and fun way to introduce the initiative in school.

“With a focus on providing a well-rounded education and fostering a love of learning, we are committed to supporting the overall well-being of our pupils.”

This competition was part of the school’s PEACH programme (Partnership for Education, Attainment and Children’s Health), which supports schools in improving the health and wellbeing of their pupils, staff and families. Dover Park Primary School are aiming to help educate children and families in eating healthily on a budget and to provide support while the cost of living is increasing.

In addition to the cooking competition, the project has also included food workshops for children and parents, cookery clubs and family cooking sessions to help promote this important message.

The Healthy Eating Drive at Dover Park Primary is an excellent example of how schools can engage their pupils in fun and interactive ways to promote healthy habits. As the project continues, the school hopes to inspire more families in the local community to adopt a balanced and budget-friendly approach to nutrition.

Mr Kirby also wanted to thank Chartwells, Ryde Town Council and Cookery Academy for all the support they are providing to the school community to help deliver these opportunities.
