
A woman in her 40s has been rushed to Southampton General Hospital following a life-threatening head injury caused by a crash in Cowes this morning (Thursday).
Emergency services were called to Newport Road at around 8am after the woman was hit by a car.
The incident, which involved a Kia Picanto and the pedestrian, has seen the woman airlifted to Southampton General Hospital.
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said:
"We were called at 8.07am with reports of a collision on Newport Road, Cowes, involving a Kia Picanto and a pedestrian.
"The pedestrian – a woman in her 40s – has sustained a head injury which is potentially life-threatening. She has been taken to hospital for treatment.
"A road closure has been put in place at Smithards Lane."
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight NHS said:
"Ambulance, critical care paramedics attended the scene.
"One person was air transferred to Southampton General Hospital via St Mary’s Hospital."
