Woman In 70s Taken To Hospital After 'Fail To Stop' Crash Near Newport

A 76-year-old Islander has been taken to hospital following a collision on the outskirts of Newport.

Hampshire Constabulary says a vehicle failed to stop following the collision, on Forest Road.

The incident happened just before 1.30pm yesterday.

Officers say a dark green car - which was was damaged - sped off from the scene along Bettyhaunt Lane towards Middle Road.

A police spokesperson said:

"We were called at 1.29pm to reports of a collision involving a silver Citroen C3 and a dark green vehicle at the junction of Forest Road and Whitehouse Road.

"The driver of the Citroen, a 76-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

"The other vehicle did not stop and left the scene along Betty Haunt Lane.

"We believe the driver's door is either heavily dented or possibly even missing.

"Have you seen a vehicle fitting this description?

"Do you have dash cam footage of the collision?

Anyone in the area at the time, or anyone who may have seen the damaged vehicle, is asked to contact police quoting crime reference number 44210310940
