Three Men Arrested On Suspicion Of 'Attempting To Take Child'

Three men have been arrested Following the suspected attempted abduction of two six year-old girls in Newport.

Police were called shortly before 7.15pm on Monday (April 29) following a suspicious incident on Westminster Lane.

A van with three men inside had stopped at around 6:40pm.

One of the men got out of the van and briefly spoke to two six year-old girls.

Physical contact was not made and the girls ran home.

We have identified all parties believed to have been involved and are carrying out enquiries with them to establish what happened and whether any offences have taken place.

Three men aged 33, 39, and 46, all from the Isle of Wight, have been arrested on suspicion of attempting to take a child so as to remove them from a person having lawful control.

They have been bailed with conditions until 1 August while enquiries continue.
