Teens Arrested After Another Disturbance At Derelict Hotel In Sandown

Four teenagers have been arrested after another disturbance at a derelict hotel in Sandown - where one of the teens ran at a police officer armed with a wooden pole.

Last night (Thursday), South Wight NPT were out on patrol conducting checks as part of Operation Spider, when they responded to a break-in at the Parkbury Hotel site.

Damage was being caused inside, and officers found a network of extension leads running up to the top floor and using hotel electricity.

As police entered, one individual ran at officers armed with a wooden pole.

Two 14-year-old boys and two 16-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of burglary and abstracting electricity without permission. One of these boys was also arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

Police said:

"At this time and while we make other enquiries, the boys have been bailed until this Sunday, at which stage they will be spoken to again by officers as we progress the investigation.

"We are working closely with the hotel owners already to secure the site and get to the root of the issues.

"In the meantime, while that work is ongoing, we continue to ask people to keep reporting any concerns and issues to us, so we can take action against the group involved in the damage and anti-social behaviour."
