Teen Arrested After £700 Of Damage Caused To Ryde Christmas Tree

Police say a 16 year old boy has been arrested as part of an investigation into suspected vandalism in Ryde.

As previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio, Ryde Town Council was forced to repair and replace items on its Christmas Tree in Minghella Square after it was ripped apart on Thursday morning.

Thankfully, a local company, EDL Event Power Solutions, offered its assistance in repairing the decorations.

Police promptly started an investigation with a 16 year old from Rookley subsequently arrested in connection with the incident.

The teen was also detained on suspicion of causing criminal damage at Hideaway Cottage Cafe in Shanklin following an incident earlier this month, assaulting an emergency worker, and resisting arrest.

Officers say he has been bailed with conditions while further enquiries continue and the case is referred to the Youth Offending Team.
