Spinnaker Tower Abseilers Raise Nearly £10k for Age UK Isle of Wight

A group of fundraisers have raised almost £10,000 for Age UK Isle of Wight by abseiling down the Emirates Spinnaker Tower.

A total of 21 people took on the 100-metre descent down the side of the iconic landmark in Portsmouth last month.

The event raised more than £9,500 for Age UK Isle of Wight, all of which will stay on the Island helping to provide support and companionship to older Island residents.

Hovertravel kindly provided free travel for event participants and the Age UK IW fundraising team.

Pat Sowerbutts, commercial manager at Hovertravel, said:

“Supporting local charitable activities is a key element of Hovertravel’s purpose. As a transport provider we enable access for many reasons, and we are dedicated to making sure that our impact on communities is as positive as it possibly can be.

"We salute all the plucky people who took on the abseil to fundraise for Isle of Wight Age UK and hope they enjoyed the view before or during their adrenaline-filled descent of Spinnaker Tower.”

Elisha Leachman, Fundraising Manager at Age UK IW, said:

“We are extremely grateful to all of the incredible fundraisers who braved the 100m descent on behalf of our local charity. We are blown away by the amount raised this year with every single one of the participants smashing their own personal targets.

"Thank you to everyone involved and that helped to support this day to be a success!”
