Southern Vectis Unveils Seven New Buses As Part Of £1.7m Investment

Southern Vectis offered the people of the Isle of Wight an early Christmas gift today — by officially unveiling seven new buses for the island.

The local operator has made a significant investment of £1.7m in the British-built ADL Enviro 400 MMC vehicles, and will run them across its Route 1 between Newport and Cowes.

“We are incredibly proud of these new double decker buses - and this is good news for both commuters and leisure passengers across the Isle of Wight,” said Andrew Wickham, Southern Vectis managing director.

“It is vitally important to us that we make sustainable transport a more attractive proposition, in order to entice people out of their cars - and this investment is a huge step in that direction.

“Reducing congestion and helping to improve air quality is a responsibility we all share, and we’re delighted to report that each of these new double decker buses carries a Euro 6 engine - cleaner than the latest generation of diesel cars.”

The Alexander Dennis E400 MMC vehicles sport on-board technology - offering USB charging points for smartphones and hand-held devices, and contactless ticketing facilities.

The seating on-board is also more comfortable than ever.

“I’m very much looking forward to seeing these new vehicles out-and-about, and welcoming even more people on-board - whether they’re travelling with us for work or play,” added Andrew.

“And, with the £2 fare cap for any single journey still in place, there’s no better time to experience bus travel on the Isle of Wight."

Southern Vectis unveiled the new buses at an event in St James’ Square in Newport earlier today.
