Southern Vectis is marking National Dog Day this Saturday (August 26) with a reminder to its customers they may bring their furry canine companions on-board its buses for free.

“On National Dog Day we want to show our love and appreciation for our four-legged friends by ensuring our customers know dogs can travel with us for free - as long as they are accompanied by their paying humans,” said Southern Vectis general manager, Richard Tyldsley.

“We know there are many local people whose only means of transport is by bus, and those with dogs will only take them with them on their travels with reassurance they will be made to feel welcome.

"There are so many wonderful days out and holidays to be had across our wonderful island - and it’s only fair that people should be able to bring their dogs along within them. After all, they are part of the family.

“We also support Guide Dogs by providing some vital bus travel experience for puppies in training."

National Dog Day was first established in 2004 by pet & family lifestyle advocate Colleen Paige.

The aim of promoting this day is to raise awareness about adopting the animals currently in rescue centres.

In addition, on this day promote dog ownership of all breeds, pure and mix.

“Whether people are bringing pups on-board as guides, or simply as companions, we are looking forward to greeting them on National Dog Day, and throughout the rest of the year.

"And, with the £2 bus fare cap still in place, there’s never been a better time to travel by bus to the perfect setting for a walk along the Isle of Wight’s beautiful coast and countryside with Fido.”
