Snow Warning In Force For Isle Of Wight

Islanders are being told to expect snow today (Tuesday) as the Met Office issues a weather warning.

But before you rush out to build a snowman, the forecaster is only predicting snowfall of up to 1cm.

A yellow 'be aware' alert is in place from 6pm until 10am tomorrow (Wednesday).

The Met Office is also warning of ice, which could lead to an increased risk of accidents and injuries.

What to expect:

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected, leading to longer journey times by car, as well as bus and train services.
  • Snow and sleet falling on frozen surfaces may lead to icy conditions, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • The combination of wind and snow may cause some drifting and very poor visibilities, especially over hills and moors.

Yesterday (Monday) the Island saw flurries in Newport, Ryde, Rookley and Shanklin.

This was the setting in Newport...
