Snow Forecast For Isle Of Wight As Temperatures Continue To Plummet

(c) IW Met Service

The Isle of Wight could see snowfall this evening (Wednesday).

The Isle of Wight Met Service issued a yellow weather warning for snow, stating:

"Rain will turn to sleet and possibly to snow in a few places, and whilst most locations that see snow falling are unlikely to see any accumulations.

"A few areas towards central and western parts may see small accumulations during the evening, especially over high ground,

"Overnight any slushy accumulations will freeze.

"It should be noted that there is still considerable uncertainty to how much snow will fall and the exact locations."

Temperatures are expected to drop significantly overnight, with 0°C to as low as -4°C in one or two low lying rural spots, freezing any remaining surface water.

It’s said that rain late this afternoon will slowly turn to sleet and possibly to snow in the western half of the Isle of Wight.

This has prompted a fresh snow warning which is in force from 5pm to 1159pm today.

While most locations that see snow falling are unlikely to see any accumulations, a few areas such as Tennyson Down across to Shalcombe, Newbridge, Calbourne, Brighstone, Shorwell and Chillerton may see small accumulations as the evening progresses, especially over high ground.
