Read Easy Charity Looking For Volunteers To Create Ryde Adult Reading Hub

A charity which began in Southampton is looking to help adult readers on the Isle of Wight by setting up a group in Ryde.

Read Easy provides free, confidential one-to-one help for adults (known as Readers) who struggle with reading.

The group in Ryde is being created with a view to expanding the service across the Island.

Specific roles available include Literacy Specialist, Fundraiser, Volunteer Recruiter and, most importantly, Coach.

Coaches don’t need any special qualifications and receive full training over Zoom.

They are introduced to their Reader by a Coordinator and then meet with them for 30 minutes, twice a week, to provide one-to-one help using a phonics-based teaching programme.

Lucy, who has been coaching for more than a year, said:

“I knew I wanted to try a new challenge and becoming a coach has been fantastic — I’m doing something that is making a real difference.

"I can honestly say it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done”

Those wishing to find out more, should join the information session at Ryde Library on Thursday April 27, from 2pm to 4.30pm.

You will have the opportunity to meet members of the team, find out more about roles available and browse the manuals and books.
