Police Warnings As Sandbags Stolen From East Cowes Properties

Police on the Isle of Wight have been forced to issue a warning after sandbags, being used to protect properties in East Cowes, were stolen last night (Wednesday).

Officers took to social media to warn those taking sandbags from outside of businesses and homes that it could be treated as theft.

It's as residents have scrambled to obtain sandbags as flood warnings were issued across the Isle of Wight ahead of heavy rainfall from Storm Ciaran.

A post on Facebook from the police said:

"Isle of Wight Council have received reports that a number of sandbags have been stolen from addresses in East Cowes, not only this morally unacceptable it is THEFT.

"Please let’s work together to keep people and property safe over this period of adverse weather."

Sandbags can be obtained from official pickup stations, as listed on the Isle of Wight Council website.
