Police Make Two Drug-Related Arrests While On Patrol Near Vandalised Golf Club

Proactive policing led to two drug-related arrests on the Isle of Wight yesterday afternoon (Monday) - with a large quantity of cannabis seized.

Local teams had recently had information about criminal damage and anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the area around Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club, so decided to visit the area.

Patrolling officers came across a car on the path to the rear of the golf club and had a word with the occupants - in particular about the strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle.

A search of the car and its occupants was conducted, and police seized a large quantity of cannabis.

Police said while this was ongoing, a number of vehicles - including motorbikes - started to head down the path, but they seemed a little startled by the presence of police, so quickly turned round and made off.

A police spokesperson said:

"The two vehicle occupants were arrested – a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of possession of cannabis with intent to supply, and a 19-year-old man on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of cannabis and being in charge of a motor vehicle whilst over the specified drug drive limit.

"The vehicle was seized, and the two teenagers taken to custody.

"They have since been released while further enquiries are conducted, but they remain under investigation.

"The investigation continues and our patrols in the area will also continue.

"Please keep reporting any concerns or suspicious behaviour in this area to us on 101, or via the report tool on."
