Nuisance Youngsters 'Removed' From Derelict Ocean Hotel In Sandown

Police have detained two youngsters after reports of anti-social behaviour at the derelict Ocean Hotel in Sandown.

Police have confirmed that two boys - aged 13 and 14 - were removed from the building.

The 14-year-old has been dealt with by means of a community resolution for committing a public order offence, with a requirement to work with the Youth Offending Team. The 13 year old is due to be interviewed further by officers.

Eyewitnesses said windows had been smashed and other debris thrown from the property on Sandown Esplanade.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:

"Work remains ongoing, under Operation Spider, in partnership with the local authority, to find a long term solution to the issues at this premises, and the associated anti-social behaviour and criminality.

"This has involved serving a Community Protection Notice on the hotel owners with conditions to properly secure the site and prevent trespass.

"We thank the public for their patience while this work is carried out, and continue to encourage members of the public to report any concerns of ASB or criminality in this area to the police."
