Missing A Parcel? Complaints Flood In About Isle Of Wight Evri Delivery Service

Residents on the Isle of Wight say they are angry and disappointed as a number of parcels - supposed to be delivered by Evri - have still not been received.

One person told Isle of Wight Radio that they were still waiting for Christmas presents for their children, that were ordered weeks ago.

Another person said they received a notification that their parcel had been accepted by the Evri gateway on December 19, collected on December 25 and was being processed on December 27.

On December 28, Evri sent a message saying:

'We're sorry, your parcel has been delayed. We're working to get it on its way on the next working day and we'll let you know once it's out for delivery."

No update has been received since.

Another person - who said they were furious with the lack of communication from the delivery firm - visited the Evri depot on the Island and was shocked with what they saw.

They said:

"I felt I had no other option than to visit the depot to try to find out what was going on. They have my kids' Christmas presents!

"It seemed like complete chaos and I could see parcels on the wet concrete floor. It seems utterly ridiculous that I couldn't actually just collect my parcel when I know it's there. I was told that I couldn't have it. It's madness."

Meanwhile, another person told Isle of Wight that she shockingly witnessed parcels being thrown when she visited the depot.

There has been no criticism of the Evri delivery drivers.

The Isle of Wight isn't the only area with reported problems, with people in the north and south of England seemingly experiencing similar issues. Evri, formerly known as Hermes, previously apologised to customers for "short delays in receiving their parcels."

A third person contacted Isle of Wight Radio saying they placed an order with a well-known high street company which uses Evri for deliveries. They said they were contacted by the brand they ordered from, yesterday (Thursday), to say it appeared the parcels had 'been lost' and a new order had to be placed.

Islanders are currently being told not to visit the Evri depot.

Responding to an enquiry from Isle of Wight Radio, a spokesperson for Evri, said:

“During the Christmas period Evri successfully delivered over 3 million parcels each day despite increased volumes due to Royal Mail Strikes, staff shortages and bad weather which affected all carriers.

"We apologise to anyone that has experienced delivery issues in the area and want to reassure them that we have a strong team in place that is dealing with any outstanding issues. However, in the unlikely event that a parcel hasn’t been delivered within 10 days, we would advise customers to contact their retailer/seller who will in turn contact us if necessary.

"Unfortunately, our depots are operational only and staff are unable to deal with parcel enquiries. We would ask people not to visit due to health and safety."
