
A 36-year-old man from Ryde has been arrested following reports of an alleged rape in Newport High Street early this morning (Saturday).
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:
“We are investigating a report of a rape on a woman in her 20s in Newport High Street around 2.45am today (April 9).
“Officers have arrested a 36-year-old man from Ryde on suspicion of rape. He remains in custody at this time and our enquiries are ongoing.”
*UPDATED
The arrested man has since been released with no further action.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:
“Officers have carried out enquiries today and no offences have been identified. The man arrested has been released with no further action.”
