Lifeboat Charity Receives £2,000 Boost Thanks To Savers' Small Change

An Isle of Wight lifeboat charity has been able to purchase new equipment after being nominated to receive a donation from a local business.

Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat received £2,000 from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation after colleagues at Ward House Mortgages and Life in Ryde put the charity forward for support.

Ward House Mortgages and Life is a Yorkshire Building Society agency, with the Society’s savers able to choose to donate the pence of their interest to support the Charitable Foundation’s Small Change Big Difference® scheme.

Collectively the small change adds up, and last year the Charitable Foundation surpassed £9million in donations since 1999.

Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat operate a 24/7 emergency service, with no government funding, relying solely on fundraising activities and donations.

This latest donation will be used to purchase new dry suits for the crew members, all of whom are volunteers.

Michael Ward, proprietor at the Ryde Yorkshire Building Society agency, said:

“It’s a privilege to support such a fantastic charity working hard to keep residents and visitors safe.

"I’m delighted the Charitable Foundation was able to support Sandown and Shanklin Lifeboat generously and I’m sure the money will be well used to help them continue their services.”

More information on the charity can be found online.
