Two Islanders will take on an ultra challenge to raise funds for a local charity next month.

Jo Smith and John Baker will be undertaking a 70-mile sponsored walk around the Isle of Wight on Saturday and Sunday May 20-21.

They will be aiming to raise money for Johns Club in Shanklin, while also raising awareness of the work the charity is doing across the Isle of Wight.

The route will see them start at Cowes and cross the finish line in East Cowes.

John's Club provides social and recreational activities for disabled people, people with learning difficulties and mental health.

The charity encourages members to learn new skills, expand their knowledge, fulfil their potential and increase their independence.

Jo said:

"I am proud to help a charity I have been involved with for many years.

"I know the work Johns Club does has helped many people over the years and I am happy to to undertake this walk to raise much needed funds."

John’s Club will also be starting training information and support sessions from their Hub at 62 High Street in Shanklin.

The Hub has a fully functioning IT suite to provide basic training in the community.

The first session will be held on Friday April 21 at 10am.

John Phillips, Chairman and Founder of Johns Club, said:

"The last couple of years have been difficult for all charities; we have emerged from the other side of that and are looking forward to improving services with more training.

"I'm very proud of John (Baker) and Jo hope people will get behind them."
