A colourful celebration of equality and diversity comes to Ryde today (Saturday) as the Isle of Wight Pride parade takes to the streets.

A sea of colour will weave its way through the town from around midday.

The parade starts at Ryde School and will head along West Street, Lind Street, Union Street and the Esplanade.

Isle of Wight Pride Trustee, Andy Newman, says Islanders can expect a party atmosphere.

"[The parade] will be led by an open top Southern Vectis bus and then there will be a whole selection of groups and organisations taking part of the parade.

"[There will be] a mixture of people walking, floats to look at, a good mixture of entertainment — and also we're going to have two giant flags."

Meanwhile, the community village opens at 11am. Entertainment starts at 1pm and finishes at around 10pm.

Organisers are encouraging those attending to drink plenty of fluids, to wear hats and sun cream and to look out for others.

Although no tickets are required, volunteers will have buckets to collect a nominal fee at entrances to the community village.
