Police on the Isle of Wight showed they were not swanning around when arresting an individual at Ryde Canoe Lake this afternoon (Tuesday).

Posting on the Facebook, officers said they had detained a male sought by Avon and Somerset Police.

The individual had been wanted since late January, for his alleged involvement in an offence.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said:

"At 12.20pm officers detained a man near Ryde Esplanade.

"This was in connection with alleged offences out of county."

Police say they were also joined by a local when making the arrest. They said:

"Excellent team work from 'A Shift' Response and Patrol and Isle of Wight ARV led to the arrest of a male wanted by Avon and Somerset Police this afternoon by Ryde Canoe Lake.

"The individual arrived on the Island having been outstanding for alleged involvement in a offence since late January 2021.

"Not wishing to miss out on the fun, we were swiftly joined by one of the Canoe Lake 'Locals'.

"Now come on, a Police Facebook page wouldn't be complete without a Hot Fuzz style Swan moment!"
