Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely has thrown his support behind Portsmouth MP Penny Mordaunt in the race to take over from Boris Johnson as Conservative leader and Prime Minister.
Mr Seely said Ms Mordaunt has proved herself to be an "effective minister" and will get the Tory party "back on track".
The MP has represented Portsmouth North since 2010, having taken the seat from Labour.
She has gone on to win it a further three times.
"This means Penny knows how to win to keep us in office", Mr Seely said.
He added:
"Penny has proved herself to be an effective minister, whilst also demonstrating public service as a Royal Naval Reservist. She'll get our Party back on track.
"Penny knows the Isle of Wight - and visited us in March. I hope to welcome Penny, as PM, back to the Island soon."
He has previously backed the outgoing PM, voting in support of him in June's confidence vote.
