Isle Of Wight Included In Rare Amber Cold Weather Alert

Islanders are being told to brace themselves for 'severe cold' from Wednesday (7) as the Met Office issues a rare amber weather alert.

A Level 3 Cold Weather alert has been issued by the forecaster.

It means there is a 90 per cent probability of freezing conditions as air from the Arctic spreads south across the country.

The alert is in place between 6pm on Wednesday (7) and 9am on Monday (12).

The Met Office is warning of health risks to vulnerable people, and disruption to the delivery of services. It said:

"Very cold nights are expected, with widespread frosts and potentially severe frosts.

"Daytime temperatures persisting near or just above freezing, with overnight temperatures continuing to trend downwards.

"Wintry showers are also likely to affect some coasts, perhaps pushing into some inland areas at times, bringing a risk of icy patches."
