Isle Of Wight Green Party Pays Tribute As Caroline Lucas Steps Down As MP

The Isle of Wight Green Party has led tributes to the Green MP Caroline Lucas, who today announced that she would be stepping down at the next General Election.

Caroline was elected as the first Green Party MP for Brighton Pavilion back in 2010, and as the Green Party leader has visited the Isle of Wight on several occasions to support environmental campaigns and to win more votes at election times.

Vix Lowthion, IW Green Party co-chair, said:

“The election of Caroline Lucas as an MP at Westminster has been a game changer for nature, for climate and for social equality.

"She sets a high standard for Parliamentarians across all political parties and shows that Green MPs do politics very differently to other parties: with honesty, bravery and very few resources!

"Isle of Wight Greens will continue to follow in her footsteps by fighting for people and planet on our councils, in our communities - and at Westminster too.”

The Green Party co-leaders Adrian Ramsay and Carla Denyer described Caroline Lucas as “a force of nature” and that Greens will be "striving to get more Green MPs elected at the next general election so that we can build on Caroline's achievements".
