Isle Of Wight Covid App 'Pings' Up Ahead Of Self-Isolation Rule Changes

There was a 27 per cent rise in the number of Islanders 'pinged' by the NHS COVID App, in the week before the Government announced a change in self-isolation rules,

In the week ending August 11, 1,219 people were told to self-isolate by the test and trace technology, NHS England figures show.

The week before that, the figure stood at 958 - a rise of 261.

When new figures are released tomorrow (Wednesday), the number of alerts is expected to fall in line with new Government guidance.

From last week (Monday 16), rules telling people to isolate when identified as a close contact of someone who has COVID-19 were scrapped for those who are fully vaccinated.

Latest figures show venue check-ins are also dropping across the Island, amid reports of people deleting the app.

Just 5,308 people used the app when checking-in to venues. That is down from 6,988 in the previous seven days.
