Isle Of Wight Chef Up For Best Pub Chef In National Awards

An Isle of Wight chef has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Great British Pub Awards 2022.

Sean Jeffers, chef at the Red Lion Pub & Restaurant, Freshwater is up for the Best Pub Chef.

The Red Lion is a traditional country pub, surrounded by the tranquillity of the Isle of Wight countryside.

Sean has been described as a huge part of the kitchen and is behind producing "high-quality, flavoursome dishes".

Sean Jeffers, Chef at The Red Lion said:

“I am privileged to be shortlisted for such an award alongside the wonderful team at The Red Lion. It is great to have my work recognised and have so much support from everyone at the pub and all the customers who thoroughly enjoy the food. The Red Lion is a local pub, and we showcase this through our food and drink offerings, sourcing everything from the Isle of Wight area.

“The Great British Pub Awards is such a big event for the pub industry, and it is an achievement in itself being nominated within these prestigious awards.”

Sean's passion for cooking came from a school food technology lesson, and he knew from there that he wanted to pursue a career in this field.

He has worked in different roles as a chef in various environments but is now Head Chef at The Red Lion and thoroughly enjoys it.

Sean’s favourite thing about being a chef and The Red Lion is that the pub has its own vegetable and herb garden, which is like a chef’s playground.

The awards recognise pubs, and their teams across the country for their amazing efforts and hard work undertaken to makes Britain’s pubs great for their communities.

Two rounds of judging have already taken place to choose the finalists, and further judging will commence over the summer with pub visits taking place.

The Great British Pub Awards are taking place on Tuesday October 4, 2022 at the Escape to Freight Island in Manchester.
