This year's Isle of Wight Book Awards are now open to submissions.

It follows the enormous success of last year's inaugural event.

There are three categories for authors to submit their free entries to: Fiction, Non-Fiction and Children's books.

These must have been published in 2022 and include Isle of Wight related content to qualify.

Awards founder Hunter Davies will judge the non-fiction books, while TV presenter Alan Titchmarsh will resume his role overseeing the children's category.

The pair will be joined by fiction judge Georgina Moore — publicist for some of the biggest names in literature whose own debut novel "The Garnett Girls" is based on the Island.

Medina Bookshop manager Paul Armfield, who will provide one of the drop-off points for entries, said:

"One of the joys of last year's awards was seeing such a wide variety of entries, written by all ages and in all different formats.

"There was a very healthy number of self-published books that held their own against other titles which had the support of bigger publishers.

"This was reflected in the three winners: a young illustrator, a poet and an historian, all of whom were either self published or with small publishers."

This year the awards will overlap with the annual Isle of Wight Literary Festival, with a prize-giving lunch held on October 3 at the Island Sailing Club marking the the festival's opening.

To apply, fill in the entry form available online, then drop in four copies of your finished masterpiece to one of the following drop-off points:

  • Medina bookshop, Cowes
  • Monkton Arts, Ryde
  • Mrs Middleton's Bookshop, Freshwater
  • Babushka Books, Shanklin.
