Islanders Without Water In Newport

Islanders are still without water in parts of Newport this morning (Thursday).

Around 300 homes are affected in the PO30 2 area.

Southern Water have said that problems while working on a main on Fairlee Road have led to low water pressure and a complete loss in some locations.

A spokesperson for Southern water said:

"We're sorry that some of our customers in Newport (P030 2) are waking up to low water pressure and, in some cases, loss of supply.

"This is due to problems encountered whilst working on a main in Fairlee Road. We’ve been working on a repair overnight but unfortunately it was more complex than originally thought. Our Engineers are working hard to restore supplies as quickly as possible.

"Bottled water is being delivered to our customers on our Priority Services Register. Bottled water was made available in Langton Walk, near Godric Road, this morning.

"A further bottled water station will be opened as soon as a suitable location is identified."
