Islanders Invited To Meet With Southern Water

Islanders are being invited to meet with Southern Water representatives in Ryde and Newport, to hear about the company is tackling storm overflows, with innovative nature based solutions.

Managers and experts from the company will be there to explain how Southern Water is tackling the challenges of securing future water supplies and protecting the environment.

Those attending can here the plans to:

  • Slash storm overflows by 2030
  • Ensuring a reliable supply of high-quality water for the future
  • Reinforce the water supply network
  • Supporting customers’ bills during the cost of living crisis

Katy Taylor, Chief Customer Officer, will host the sessions. She said:

“The Island is a special place. We want to hear from customers about what they need from us and have the opportunity to talk about our plans.

"The Island relies heavily on tourism for its economy and our customers want to know how we keep bathing waters and rivers clean.

"All the beaches on the island are rated ‘Excellent’ by Defra. But we know that residents want us to slash the number of storm releases of rain and wastewater made to protect homes from flooding – this will be a chance to share our exciting plans.”

Katy said she expected environmental work to be a key concern. She added:

​Southern Water serves 2.6 million customers with drinking water and 4.6 million with wastewater services, covering Kent, East and West Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.  

On an average day we supply 556 million litres of water and treat 13371 million litres of wastewater.
