Hairdressers In Shanklin Could Be Turned Into Flats

A hairdressers in a prominent Shanklin location could be turned into flats after 20 years of business.

Booty Hair and Beauty Salon, on Cross Street, will be closing imminently as its owner retires, planning documents submitted to the Isle of Wight Council say.

The salon’s new owner, Jonathan Platt, is seeking permission to turn the space on the ground floor of Corinthian Court into four flats.

They would be split into three one-bedroom and one two-bed apartments, potentially adding to the existing flats already above the hairdressers.

In justifying the change of the retail space into residential, Andrew White Planning Consultancy said it is the most efficient way of re-purposing the unit and efforts to sell the business had fallen through.

Currently, the layout of the salon is extensive and has a fragmented internal layout which is not ideal for alternative commercial uses, the agents said, especially with the number of other vacant commercial buildings in the town centre.

Minor alterations are proposed to the exterior of the building, changing the front doors and blocking up a set of windows.

You can view the application, 22/01920/FUL, on the council’s planning portal. Comments can be made until December 2.
