Mountbatten Isle of Wight music ambassador, Mike Christie, is preparing to release a brand new song in celebration of the iconic fundraising event, Walk the Wight.
The singer, writer, actor and producer, from the multi-platinum selling quartet, G4, is working with the Island’s hospice charity to release a track to celebrate the event’s 35th anniversary, which includes a 26 mile trek through the Isle of Wight’s National Landscape.
Walk the Wight With You, specially written by Mike, will feature a host of guest performances, including from the Isle of Wight Cantata Choir, Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s choir and Mountbatten CEO and pianist, Nigel Hartley.
Mike wants the song to raise funds and awareness for Mountbatten Isle of Wight. He said:
“I am truly honoured to be an ambassador for Mountbatten Isle of Wight.
"It gives me such joy to sing to Islanders at the hospice, helping create positive and happy memories for them and their families and friends.”
Mike is often to be found on Mountbatten’s inpatient unit and in the John Cheverton Centre community space.
Why Walk the Wight?
From humble beginnings as a team-building exercise for Moreys to the show-stopping fundraising event it is today, Walk the Wight welcomes around ten thousand walkers each year.
In 2024, Walk the Wight raised an incredible £560,000.

Long-time Mountbatten supporter, music ambassador, Mike Christie said:
“From the moment I first set foot in Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s hospice, it struck me what a happy, colourful and celebratory place it is.
“You can always expect a warm welcome at the John Cheverton Centre and it is a pleasure to lead weekly singalongs, as part of the huge variety of activities there.
“It is the people – Mountbatten’s expert nurses, its staff, and its patients and visitors – who truly shape it and make it the most incredibly special place to be.”
Mountbatten CEO, Nigel Hartley, MBE, said:
“I was honoured to be asked to be a part of this project and we cannot wait to be able to share the song, in celebration of one of the most important events in Mountbatten — and the Isle of Wight’s — year.
“The 35 th anniversary of Walk the Wight is very special, so sign up now. Your support is vital and very much appreciated.”
