The Floating Bridge has been suspended ahead of schedule following a mechanical fault.
The Isle of Wight Council announced that the service between Cowes and East Cowes would be replaced by a passenger launch early after a drive mechanism failed.
The suspension had been due to start on Monday.
The bridge will be out of service from now until Friday (27th September).
