Decision Made On Ryde's Pennyfeathers Development

A meeting over a major housing proposal in Ryde has seen plans for more than 900 new homes rejected this afternoon (Wednesday).

An extraordinary meeting was held by the Isle of Wight Council to discuss the proposed Pennyfeathers housing scheme — first intimated more than eight years ago.

Several issues were raised about the blueprint of the long-disputed development during the meeting.

Pennyfeathers as a housing scheme has actually been on the cards for over ten years now but the first stages of planning permission were granted in 2017.

This secondary application — to determine access, appearance, landscaping, layout and scale — has been lodged with the council since 2020.

Artist renderings show the construction running adjacent to Brading Road — continuing from Westridge Garage to Busy Bee Garden Centre.

In addition to houses and flats, there would be commercial buildings and a community centre.

Land for a school was also included in the plans — covering more than 4.3 acres.

Last month saw IW Council planning officers recommend the scheme be approved, with this latest snub leaving plans — initially proposed back in 2014 — in limbo.
