Cowes RNLI Lifeboat Assists In Catamaran Rescue

A 10 metre catamaran with engine trouble in a wind-swept Osborne Bay led to the launching of Cowes RNLI lifeboat yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon, to be later joined by the all-weather Bembridge lifeboat.

The catamaran, with two people on board, had suffered an engine breakdown, and then its deployed anchor began to drag in the stiff easterly wind. Cowes lifeboat launched at 3.45 pm and put a crew member aboard the catamaran.

It was then decided to call on the help of the Tamar Class Bembridge lifeboat.

After the Bembridge lifeboat’s arrival the anchor was recovered and Bembridge lifeboat took the catamaran in tow to Trinity Landing, Cowes – escorted by the Cowes lifeboat.

Later the catamaran was to be towed by a harbour launch to Shepards Marina.
