Coronavirus: Further Rise In Cases As Isle Of Wight Prepares For Tier 1

As the Isle of Wight gets ready to enter Tier 1 restrictions, another eight cases of coronavirus have been confirmed.

Daily figures show the Island's total - since the pandemic started - has risen to 948.

The cases are from people registered on the Isle of Wight.

University students still registered with their GP on the Island, but living on the mainland, may influence data should they test positive for COVID-19, as Isle of Wight Radio previously reported.

From Wednesday (2), the Island will be just one of three areas in England to have been placed in the lowest level of the new, strengthened tier system.

The news was confirmed by Government earlier today (Thursday), as Isle of Wight Radio reported.

Find out what it means, here.

The Isle of Wight Council is advising us to follow the government guidelines: hands, face, space.

  • Wash your hands often and for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitiser regularly.
  • Wear a face-covering where appropriate.
  • Keep space from other people; 2 metres or at least 1 metre apart.

If you or someone you know, displays any symptoms, no matter how mild, the council is urging you to get a free test by calling 119 or visiting NHS.uk

The council has also produced a self-isolation toolkit to help people prepare to self-isolate if they need to.
