Christ The King College Tells Three Year Groups “Work From Home” As Temperatures Soar

An Isle of Wight school has made the decision to close to three year groups at the beginning next week, due to “extreme” soaring temperatures.

Christ the King College (CTK) is shutting for Years 9, 10 and 12 on Monday (18) and Tuesday (19).

Affected students will be expected to partake in remote learning from home.

The school said it’s made the decision due to the “extreme weather forecast”. As previously reported, a rare amber heat warning is in place for the Island from midnight Sunday to midnight Tuesday.

CTK pupils in Years 7 and 8 are expected to attend, and the college said provisions are being made to ensure it’s not too hot in classrooms.

Those students can continue to wear PE kits if they choose, a statement said.

This policy has also been followed by other schools this week, including Medina and Carisbrooke College.

Temperatures are expected to cool from Wednesday onwards. CTK said it will make a decision about the rest of the week, on Monday.
