Children Help Bring Christmas Joy To Newport Care Home

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Vecta House care home have got into the Christmas spirit by hosting a Christmas lights switch on event.

Residents in Newport were joined by children from Summerfields Primary School, who sang carols, before the turning on of the festive lights.

The evening ended with a surprise visit from Santa on his sleigh, arranged by activities co-ordinator Tanya Everson, with the Isle of Wight Round Table. Residents wrapped up warm to see Santa on his sleigh, as he wished everyone Merry Christmas.

General Manager, Nichola Shepherd, said:

“We endeavoured to give each of our residents something that they could really be excited about in the run-up to Christmas, and have had lots of treats for the people who live here and their guests.

"I am pleased that we could hold something like this for our home and it is clear that everyone has really enjoyed the day!”

Mike, a resident at Vecta House, said:

“It has been a lovely day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get in spirit. I really enjoyed listening to the children sing, it reminded me of when I was in the Choir as a young boy."

Vecta House care home is run by Barchester Healthcare, and provides residential care, nursing care and dementia care for 54 residents from respite care to long term stays.
