Bob Seely Confirms Intention To Stand As Isle Of Wight West MP

Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely has admitted he is "disappointed" he won't get to represent all of the Island, should plans to have two MPs get greenlighted, as he confirmed his intention to stand for the West constituency.

A final consultation on proposals, put forward by the Boundary Commission, has now ended.

Assuming they're approved, it would see the Island divided into west and east.

As part of changes, East Cowes, Fairlee and Whippingham, and Osborne would transfer into the western constituency.

While, in the eastern constituency, there would be Newchurch, Havenstreet and Ashey, Ventnor and St Lawrence, and Wroxall, Lowtherville & Bonchurch.

Mr Seely MP said representing the west is a "natural choice" given the fact he lives there.

He said:

“It is a wonderful privilege to be able to represent the Island in Westminster.

“There will be a selection process for two Conservative candidates to stand to be MP, and then clearly an election process in the shape of the next General Election, whenever that will be.

“I will be putting my name forward for the Isle of Wight West constituency.

“Whilst I am disappointed at losing the opportunity to represent all the Island after the next General Election, the new boundaries means that I have to decide which seat I wish to be selected in. I live in Isle of Wight West so that is the natural choice for me."

Mr Seely had asked for the Ventnor and St Lawrence ward to be kept in the west, but this was not approved.

He said he will continue to represent the Island "in equal measure" between now and until the next General Election, and "even after then".

He added:

"If I have the honour of being re-selected and re-elected – I will work with the MP for the other constituency to ensure that we together speak up for the Island as a whole, in the same way I have done since 2017 and will continue to do."

He pointed at his record of securing more than £120 million of additional investment in the past five years, including for Island Line and the NHS.
