Vehicle Collides With Wall At Downend Near Arreton

Emergency services have been called to a crash between a vehicle and a wall near Arreton, where people are feared trapped.

Crews from Shanklin and Ryde have been called to the incident on Downend Road, near the Hare and Hounds pub.

Emergency services - including police and the ambulance service - were called at 1.01pm.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said two people are understood to be trapped in a car.

Traffic is heavy in the area.

*Downend Road has been closed - according to Hampshire Constabulary.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said:

"We were called at 12.57pm this afternoon (Wednesday) to a report that a silver Ford Mondeo had collided with a wall near the Hare and Hounds Pub.

"There were two occupants in the vehicle, a man and a woman – neither have reported any injuries at this time.

"Downend Road and Long Lane were both closed while emergency services at the scene deal with the incident.

 "The road has now been cleared and is being reopened."

**The roads have now reopened, according to police.
