Shanklin Man Swims Pier2Pier For The Elizabeth Foundation’s 40th Birthday

Peter Clark

A man from Shanklin is doing the Pier2Pier Swim for a charity that is close to his heart and supports and diagnoses youngsters and babies with severe hearing impairments.

It will be the first time Peter Clark swims in the sea when he takes on the 1.8 mile challenge for The Elizabeth Foundation next month (August).

Peter, who has volunteered with The Elizabeth Foundation, is also taking the opportunity to raise awareness about the charity’s work on their 40th birthday.

Peter told Isle of Wight Radio:

“I have never done any sea swimming so I think it will be a bit of a challenge - I have done a lot of pool swimming but this is my first real sea swim it is around 116 lengths of a swimming pool so is quite a distance.

“The charity provides early diagnosis of babies and infants with profound hearing loss and provides the education and welfare services for those children to help deaf children learn to listen and talk.

“This swim is an opportunity for me to raise some much-needed funds for the foundation.”

The popular fundraiser, organised by the Marlins Masters Swim Club, required swimmers to set off from Sandown Pier and make their way to the site of the former Shanklin Pier.

Peter has joined the club and is practising for the event regularly in the pool.

The event takes place on midday Saturday 7 August.
