Marty Wilde is the latest star to pay tribute to Isle of Wight journalist, John Hannam, who died last month following a short illness.

The rock and roll singer, known for sixties and seventies hits such as Teenager in Love and Endless Sleep, said John was 'a very special man' to him and 'many others'.

Marty said:

"John had the trademark of a great interviewer because he was always a good listener. The questions were always intelligent.

"He first came into my life over 50 years ago. All through those years, he was always a kind friend.

"He was a gentle soul. He reminded me of a butterfly in a windy room. But he always seemed to get through — because he had a lovely soft personality.

"His importance cannot be underestimated."

John interviewed Marty live on stage in March 2019 at the Renown Pictures Film Festival in St Albans. The interview was played on Talking Pictures TV.

Other celebrities to pay tribute to John include Dame Judi Dench, Jeremy Irons, Celia Imrie and Dame Sheila Hancock, as previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio.
