'Pingdemic' Causing Isle Of Wight Postal Deliveries Delays

Have you experienced delays with your post? It's claimed the 'pingdemic' is causing disruption to Isle of Wight postal services.

Royal Mail has told Isle of Wight Radio 'COVID-related absences' are impacting deliveries in 'some areas'.

It's understood the Isle of Wight is one of those places affected by self-isolation rules.

Isle of Wight Radio has been told up to 30 staff at Newport's Delivery Office are currently off work.

When asked, Royal Mail stopped short of confirming how many Island staff members are affected.

A spokesperson said:

“The health and safety of our colleagues and our customers is our number one priority.

"In a limited number of areas, we are experiencing some disruption to services due to COVID related absences.

"In impacted areas, we are focused on providing as comprehensive a service as possible to our customers.”

A self-isolation exemption list has previously been published by the Government.

It means a “small number” of key workers who have received both doses of a coronavirus vaccine won't have to isolate if they are contacted by the app. This includes staff in food factories, transport, national security, police, military and NHS staff and social care workers.

Postal services are not currently listed.
