Line dancers on the Isle of Wight have stepped up to raise money for Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat.

Katrina Kelly and members of Line Dance IW - along with the Island's High Sheriff Mrs Caroline Peel - presented Mark Birch, Operations Manager of the Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat with a cheque for £2,100.

Katrina said:

"Our Line Dancers wanted to carry on fundraising for the lifeboat charity, during the lockdown and when we returned, because they know the value of what Mark and his dedicated team of volunteers do and the time they give up to protect people in the Bay."

Caroline added:

"The Independent Lifeboat does an incredible amount of emergency work, especially in the Summer, and it was really good to meet the line dancers that have 'stepped' in to help support Mark and the Team."

Line dancing has national guidance to enable the activity to continue under COVID-19 guidance and members have welcomed the range of courses being run at the Broadway Centre and the work of Sandown Town Council to enable the centre to be secure.

Mark Birch concluded:

"It's been a challenging year for the Crew, especially with the effects of COVID-19 on the Bay and Tourist season, and we greatly appreciate the on-going support that Katrina's Dancers give to the lifeboat - they really help keep us afloat."
